BioLabs, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board/BILB -- CS 4/99) is progressing well. Michael Denny, director of investment banking at Yorkton Securities says: "In this new century, health care & biotechnology will be growth industries that will eclipse the Internet's impact on our lives. Internet & technology visionaries will soon be looking for the next place to invest their money. With the potential of health care & biotechnology & their relative neglect by the market, the smart money will be in this sector." Check my comment 1/22/2000 in my Daily Comment archives. Bion Environmental Technologies, Inc. (OTC Bulletin Board/BION -- CS 6/99) in 1999 did a BionSoilR [organic soil/fertilizer created by BION's Nutrient Management SystemTM (NMS)] growth trial on peach trees at the University of Georgia. The trees were evaluated for size, color, growth rate, & expected time to produce a first crop. BionSoil outperformed conventional 10-10-10 fertilizer on all treatments throughout the randomized, replicated study. An additional treatment using BionSoil along with conventional fertilizer also produced superior results, suggesting a synergistic effect between the two materials. Dr. Gary Couvillon, professor of horticulture with University of Georgia College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences said: "Where BionSoil was used, the young peach trees were larger, greener, & will be ready for intensive peach production sooner."

BION's NMS relies on natural, biological processes that do not require the expensive structures of alternative waste treatment technolo-gies. NMS creates a self-contained natural habitat & signifi-cantly reduces odor. The system treats both solid & liquid portions of the manure waste stream through a complex series of natural microbial processes. It consists of bioreactors, solid ecoreactors, temporary water storage areas, & polishing ecoreactors, all of which meet local regulatory requirements.

BionSolids, the solid materials produced as a result of the bio-conversion of manure & urine by NMS, are periodically "harvested," & removed from the farm site to be sold as BionSoil. The remaining water is available for many uses throughout the animal operation. The high concentration of aerobic bacteria in the system assures that the odor-producing portion of the waste stream is quickly absorbed, virtually eliminating the odor -- a welcome result for the community.

Based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture census, the company estimates there are 560 million BioAnimals on farms in the U.S. Considering the economics of its system, the company estimates that about one third of these would be candidates for its NMS. Due to the growth of the industry, management believes it will have over 5 million BioAnimals under contract by 2002. The market for BION's premium natural BionSoil products is forecasted to be substantial. Nurseries currently consume 120 million cubic yards of soil annually, & the needs of golf courses & the turf industry are equally large. Test-marketing of BionSoil in the spring of 1998, with no advertising or national retail tie-in, was pegged at around $40 per cubic yard... an encouraging number.

On 12/23/99, BION entered into a three-year management agreement with D2 Co., LLC. D2 will aid BION in strengthening its management team, refining its business plan, & assisting in raising the capital needed to implement the plan. One step was the appointment of two new board members, Salvatore Zizza & David Mitchell. Mitchell is the new CEO, & chairman of the executive committee.

Zizza is chairman of The Bethlehem Corp. (AMEX/BET). He was chairman & CEO of The Lehigh Group, Inc., & is a director of the Gabelli Funds (Asset, Convertible Securities, Equity Trust, Global Multimedia Trust, Growth & Utility), & a director of Hollis Eden Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ/HEPH).

Mitchell is president of Mitchell & Co. Ltd., a merchant banking company. He was a managing principal & director of Rodman & Renshaw, director with Laidlaw, Adams & Peck, Inc., & was with Bear Stearns, Oppenheimer,

& Cralin & Co. He is a director of Kellstrom Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ/KELL), Bogen Communications International (NASDAQ/BOGN), & Moto Guzzi (OTC BB/GUZI).
